Adsorption/Desorption Characteristics and Simultaneous Enrichment of Orientin, Isoorientin, Vitexin and Isovitexin from Hydrolyzed Oil Palm Leaf Extract Using Macroporous Resins

Oil palm leaves (OPL) containing flavonoid C-glycosides are abundantly generated as oil byproducts. The performances of three macroporous resins with different physical and chemical properties for the enrichment isoorientin, orientin, vitexin, isovitexin from acid-hydrolyzed OPL (OPLAH) extract were screened. XAD7HP resin exhibited best sorption capacities targeted was thus selected further evaluation. Static adsorption using under optimal conditions (extract adjusted to pH 5, shaken at 298 K 24 h) gave kinetics that fit well a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. isoorientin orientin described by Langmuir isotherms, while vitexin Freundlich isotherms. Dynamic trials column-packed produced 55–60-fold between 11 25-fold aqueous ethanol. total C-glycoside-enriched fractions (enriched OPLAH) (247.28–284.18 µg/mg), (104.88–136.19 (1197.61–1726.11 (13.03–14.61 µg/mg) showed excellent antioxidant free radical scavenging activities compared their crude extracts, IC50 values 6.90–70.63 µg/mL 44.58–200.00 µg/mL, respectively. Hence, this rapid efficient procedure preliminary may have practical value in biomass waste utilization programs produce high value-added products, particularly nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals industries.
